The Asokwa Circuit Court has sentenced Emmanuel Asamoah, a 22-year-old commercial motorcycle and tricycle rider, to three years’ imprisonment with hard labour after CCTV footage captured him stealing from a shop at Suame-Magazine in Kumasi.
Asamoah admitted to unlawfully entering the shop belonging to Madam Ama Kyerewaa and stealing a total of GH¢80,000 over a two-month period.

Presiding Judge Fred Obikyere took into consideration that Asamoah was a first-time offender, had cooperated fully with investigators, and had begun repaying the stolen money.
He has pledged to refund GH¢55,000 as the balance after a portion of the cash was recovered.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Stephen Ofori, Madam Kyerewaa, a midwife living in Aputuogya, runs the Amful Metal shop with her husband, who also served as a witness in the case.
Asamoah, who often parked his tricycle near the shop while waiting to transport customers’ metal pipes, was familiar with the premises.
The incident came to light on October 31, 2025, when the complainant noticed GH¢9,000 missing from her handbag.
After searching all workers without finding anything suspicious, she reviewed CCTV recordings and discovered footage showing Asamoah taking cash from both her handbag and a drawer.
A formal complaint led to his arrest, and he later confessed in his cautionary statement to stealing a cumulative GH¢80,000.
Police retrieved GH¢20,000 during the investigation, leading to his prosecution and conviction.
