Interior Minister assures transparent, merit-based recruitment into Internal Security Services

The Minister for the Interior, Mr Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has assured the public that the upcoming recruitment into the Internal Security Services will be conducted in a transparent, merit-based and corruption-free manner.

Addressing a news conference in Accra on Friday, he dismissed circulating claims that the recruitment had already taken place, insisting that the integrity of the process remained paramount.

“I want to assure the public that this recruitment exercise will be fair and transparent. Nobody has been pre-selected, and nobody can buy their way into the system,” he said.

He announced that the recruitment process will officially begin on Monday, November 17, 2025, when the online application portal opens, two days later than originally advertised. The adjustment followed consultations with Security Chiefs after the tragic incident that marred the Armed Forces recruitment exercise on November 12, resulting in six deaths and 28 injuries.

“We took this decision as a mark of respect to the bereaved families and those who were injured,” he said.

The Minister outlined key measures put in place to guarantee a smooth and safe process, including a centralised e-recruitment portal that will streamline applications across all agencies under the Interior Ministry. The portal, he noted, is built to handle high traffic and is accessible across multiple devices.

Application vouchers will be available at GCB Bank branches nationwide and via a USSD shortcode to be announced across media platforms.

“We want to make the process easy and convenient. You can apply from your home, your office, or wherever you are,” he added.

To prevent overcrowding and enhance safety, multiple screening centres will be established, each hosting no more than 1,000 applicants at a time. Screening sessions will also be staggered, with each agency conducting its process independently.

“Every applicant will be given a specific centre and time slot, generated automatically by the system,” he said.

He further disclosed that several 24/7 helplines will be available on the portal to provide technical and general support throughout the recruitment period.

Reiterating a strict stance against corruption, he warned applicants to be wary of fraudsters posing as intermediaries.

“The recruitment is not for sale. If anyone approaches you claiming they can secure you a slot, report them immediately. They will be arrested,” he emphasised.

The Minister encouraged qualified young Ghanaians to apply, noting that the opportunity to serve in the Internal Security Services is open to all who meet the set requirements.
