“Experience Volta in Accra” Festival Set for December 13 with a Dazzling Celebration of Ewe Heritage

Organisers of the maiden Volta Heritage Festival, themed “Experience Volta in Accra,” have unveiled an exciting lineup of cultural, artistic, and musical events ahead of the much-anticipated celebration scheduled for December 13, 2025, at the El Wak Sports Stadium.

The festival promises a full-day showcase of Ewe culture and creativity, blending tradition and modernity to highlight the Volta Region‘s music, cuisine, art, and festivals in one vibrant space.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Eric Seyram Agbolosu, Festival Director, said the event was designed to bring the spirit of Voltaland’s diverse festivals to the national stage, offering both natives and cultural enthusiasts an opportunity to reconnect with their roots.

“We have many unique festivals in Voltaland, Hogbetsotsoza, Teza, Avenortutudoza, Godigbeza, Nugoryiza, and others, but not every native gets the chance to attend. Our goal is to bring everyone together in the capital to recreate that communal spirit and pride,” he explained.

A Day of Colour, Rhythm, and Tradition

The festival will open with “Fiazorli” (The Awakening Procession) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., featuring a royal parade of chiefs, priests, drummers, and traditional troupes, filling the streets of Accra with the rhythm and colours of Ewe culture.

Next will be “Amlima Kornuwo” (The Durbar of Chiefs), a grand assembly of traditional rulers, dignitaries, and cultural leaders, celebrating Ewe royal customs, greetings, and pageantry.

From 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., attendees will enjoy “Blema Xotutwo, The Cultural Experience,” a captivating display of traditional dances such as agbadza, borborbor, and atsiagbekor, alongside storytelling, drumming, and folk artistry.

Running simultaneously will be “Vakpor Mi Da – The Taste of Volta,” a culinary showcase offering authentic regional delicacies, local drinks, and pastries. Visitors can also explore a food and craft exhibition, featuring fashion, art, and innovation from local creatives.

As the sun sets, nostalgia will take over with “Old Skul Vibes” from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., featuring Ewe classics, folk music, spoken word, and traditional rhythms.

The night will climax with “The New Wave Experience” from 10:00 p.m. till dawn, blending contemporary sounds with traditional roots, a mix of Highlife, Afropop, Reggae, and Dancehall, highlighting the region’s evolving creative scene.

Cultural Endorsement and Support

Among the festival’s patrons are Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of Aflao, and Mr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, Volta Regional Representative on the Council of State. The organisers have also sought the blessings and collaboration of key traditional and political figures, including Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, and Togbi Sri III, Awoamefia of Anlo State.

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially endorsed the festival under its “December in GH” campaign, an initiative that promotes Ghana’s regional cultures as central to tourism and national identity.

Mr Agbolosu said the team envisioned “Experience Volta in Accra” as a signature annual event on Ghana’s cultural calendar.

“We want people to feel, taste, and celebrate the spirit of Volta right here in the nation’s capital. This is more than a festival, it’s a homecoming for every proud Ewe and a cultural adventure for everyone else,” he said.

With its rich blend of tradition, music, and creativity, the festival is expected to strengthen unity among Ghanaians and reinforce the Volta Region’s role as a cultural powerhouse in Ghana’s heritage landscape.
