Ghana Police Service strengthens ties with FBI in historic US visit

New York, USA, Oct. 17, GNA – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has led a Ghana Police Service delegation to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) New York Field Office, marking the first official engagement between the two agencies to deepen law enforcement cooperation.

According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the visit is part of a broader U.S. initiative to enhance operational partnerships and share best practices between Ghana and leading American law enforcement agencies.

During the discussions with Christopher Raia, Assistant Director-in-Charge of the Field Office, and his leadership team, both sides explored joint strategies to tackle cyber-enabled fraud, intelligence-led policing, counterterrorism operations, and the use of technology in crime detection and prevention.

IGP Yohuno reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to modern policing and global collaboration, stating:
“Partnerships like this reaffirm our shared responsibility to protect our people. The Ghana Police Service is committed to adopting advanced investigative tools and intelligence collaboration to prevent crime and ensure the safety and trust of our citizens.”

Mr Raia commended the growing cooperation between the two agencies, highlighting successful operations such as the recent extradition of cyber fraudsters from the U.S. to Ghana, noting:
“These results are only possible through sustained international cooperation.”

The visit reinforced both institutions’ dedication to information exchange, capacity building, and coordinated operations to address evolving transnational threats, laying the groundwork for stronger bilateral law enforcement collaboration.
