Dzifa Gomashie inaugurates Governing Board of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, urges members to serve with integrity and national pride

Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, urging members to serve with integrity, professionalism, and a strong sense of national duty.

She said the nine-member board would play a crucial role in ensuring the park’s sustainability, development, and alignment with Ghana’s cultural and tourism priorities.

“The survival or otherwise of this institution depends largely on you. You are more than equal to the task, given your individual accomplishments in life. So, I urge you to provide strategic leadership, ensure efficient resource management, and promote transparency, accountability, and collaboration with stakeholders,” she stated.

Madam Gomashie expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing what she described as a competent and visionary team. She said she was confident in their ability to protect and enhance the legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and a Pan-African luminary.

She also thanked the board members for accepting the responsibility to oversee one of Ghana’s most significant national heritage institutions, stressing that their service would help preserve the nation’s historical identity.

Madam Anne Asantewaa Sackey, the newly appointed Board Chair, described the appointment as a profound honour and responsibility. She highlighted the park’s importance as a sacred national site dedicated to preserving and showcasing the legacy of Dr Nkrumah.

“To be entrusted with the stewardship of this monumental site is not an honour we take lightly. Our mission is clear: to preserve the legacy of the park while enhancing it as a world-class destination for education, inspiration, and tourism,” Madam Sackey said.

She emphasised the global relevance of Nkrumah’s legacy, noting that his influence is evident in more than 40,000 scholarly publications and tens of thousands of monthly visits to his Wikipedia page.

Mr Joseph Kwasi Amoah, Chief Director of the Ministry, congratulated the members and acknowledged their vital role in ensuring the effectiveness and sustainability of the park. “Without a governing board, no matter what the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park does, we cannot describe it as complete,” he remarked.

Other members of the board include Mr Collins R. Nunyonameh (PhD), Dr Michael Mensah, Mr Paul Parker Atitsogbui (ESQ), Mr Abraham Eghan, Mr Bob Denis Ahiagble, Madam Fafa Afua Adinyra, Madam Belinda Alijata Suleman, and Mr Awudu Lah Jnr. Baguah.
