Technology stakeholders call for urgent reintroduction of national computer science programme to equip Ghana’s youth with digital skills

Accra, Oct. 8. Technology stakeholders have called for the swift reintroduction of a National Computer Science Programme to equip Ghana’s youth with the digital competencies needed to thrive in today’s technology-driven world.

The call was made during the launch of “RESET & REBOOT,” a new book by author Kobby Prairie, held at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT. The event doubled as a platform to reignite national dialogue on digital literacy and the role of technology in Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.

Mr. Dzifa Gunu, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Digital Centre, said the country’s digital transformation agenda must begin by addressing fundamental challenges, particularly infrastructure gaps and high data costs.

“There are not enough digital centres or IT parks for the Ghanaian youth to go and learn more. And then also the age-old challenge of data cost,” Mr. Gunu observed, stressing that expensive internet access continues to discourage many young people from exploring digital learning opportunities.

He described Kobby Prairie’s RESET & REBOOT as a timely work that “inspires and reignites the national computer digital conversation,” underscoring the urgent need for structured initiatives to enhance ICT education and digital literacy across the country.

Author Kobby Prairie explained that his book, RESET, was inspired by personal experiences and offers five guiding principles aimed at helping individuals refocus their purpose and priorities.

He outlined the book’s central themes, including the power of knowing one’s “why” over the “what,” the importance of gratitude, self-awareness, and valuing relationships, experience, and health as forms of “life capital” more enduring than money.

The launch symbolically aligned with the proposed revival of a National Computer Science Programme, under the broader theme “Empowering Ghana’s Youth with Digital Skills and the Mindset for National Transformation.”

Stakeholders at the event emphasised that such a programme would not only prepare Ghana’s youth for emerging digital industries but also drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive economic growth in the years ahead.
