Ashaiman Court remands dismissed officer for impersonation

The Ashaiman District Court has remanded 54-year-old Kofi Boakye Frimpong into custody for pretending to be a public officer (police officer) without lawful authority, contrary to Section 237 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Frimpong’s plea was not taken, as investigations are still ongoing to determine whether he was indeed an ex-police officer.

Presenting the facts, Inspector Henry Nartey Tetteh, prosecuting, said the complainants, police officers with the Zenu-Attadeka Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD), arrested and handed over the accused after suspecting foul play.

According to the prosecution, on September 17, 2025, at about 9:00 a.m., while the officers were on duty at the Zenu Star Fuel Station, they stopped Frimpong, who was dressed in a tactical black long-sleeved police uniform with a chief inspector’s rank badge.

During a brief interaction, the officers became suspicious of his responses. The accused then allegedly jumped onto a motorbike and ordered the rider to speed off, but was chased down and arrested.

Further interrogation revealed that Frimpong was a dismissed chief inspector who had relocated to Ashaiman but continued to wear a police uniform and present himself as an active officer.

He was subsequently charged with impersonation of a public officer, while investigations continue.
