GES cautions parents and students against paying money for senior high school placement

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reaffirmed that school placement into Senior High Schools (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions is absolutely free.

In a statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the Service cautioned parents, guardians, and students not to pay money to any individual or group for placement.

“The GES categorically states that the school placement exercise is absolutely free of charge. At no point should any parent, guardian or student pay any money to any individual or group of persons for placement into any Senior High School or Technical and Vocational Educational and Training (TVET) institution,” the statement stressed.

GES said its attention had been drawn to reports circulating on social media alleging that some parents and guardians were being asked to pay money for placements. It explained that official and transparent processes are already in place for the exercise.

Parents and guardians were advised to use only the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal, the Resolution Centres, and official GES communication channels for all placement-related concerns.

“We encourage anyone who is approached with demands for money in exchange for placement to report immediately to the Ghana Education Service or the nearest Police Station for swift action,” the statement added.

GES emphasised that placement into SHSs remains merit-based, transparent, and free of charge, assuring fairness and equal opportunity for all qualified candidates.
