Youth urged to emulate Nkrumah’s visionary leadership for national progress

Mr. Issahaku Abdul-Latif, Coordinator of the Northern Regional Chapter of Activista Ghana, has called on Ghanaian youth to draw inspiration from the visionary leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to drive sustainable national development.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale to mark this year’s Founders’ Day, Mr. Abdul-Latif said Dr. Nkrumah’s values of patriotism, selflessness, and dedication to nation-building remained critical to Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.

He highlighted Nkrumah’s bold policies in education, industrialisation, Pan-Africanism, and youth empowerment as lessons worth emulating. “The youth of today must rise and embrace these values if we want to secure a prosperous future for ourselves and the next generation,” he stated.

Mr. Abdul-Latif urged young people to look beyond partisan divides and instead focus on innovation, community service, and citizen-centred leadership. He added that active youth participation in governance, advocacy, and development initiatives would accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He reaffirmed Activista Ghana’s commitment to creating platforms for youth engagement in national conversations, accountability processes, and solution-driven initiatives to address pressing challenges.

Founders’ Day, marked annually on September 21, commemorates the birthday of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and his enduring legacy in shaping the country’s political, social, and economic journey.

Mr. Abdul-Latif encouraged youth groups, student bodies, and community-based organisations to use the commemoration as an opportunity to renew their commitment to unity, patriotism, and visionary leadership.
