Apostle Kwadwo Safo “Kantanka” passes on at 77

Apostle Kwadwo Safo, founder of the Kristo Asafo Church and celebrated Ghanaian innovator, has passed away. A family statement issued on Sunday, September 14, 2025, confirmed his death, which occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

The statement, signed by his daughter, Ms. Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, described him as a “true genius, a beacon of hope for many, and a father to the fatherless.” It highlighted that his persona was shaped by “life struggles, dreams, resilience, courage, determination and dedication to his calling and conviction,” adding, “Ghana has indeed lost a gallant son and a true legend.”

The family appealed to the public to respect their privacy in this period of mourning, noting that funeral arrangements would be announced later.

Born on August 26, 1948, in the Ashanti Region, Apostle Safo founded the Kristo Asafo Mission in 1971, growing it into a religious organisation renowned for philanthropy. In 1994, he established Kantanka Automobile, which officially began vehicle production in 1998, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s industrial development.

Under his leadership, the Kristo Asafo Church expanded to about 137 branches nationwide and spread globally with missions in Togo, Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, and the United States.

Apostle Safo, popularly known as “Kantanka,” was celebrated not only as a religious leader but also as a philanthropist, agriculturist, industrialist, and technological innovator whose works inspired generations.
