WACCU renovates dilapidated Owlo JHS block as part of 60th anniversary CSR initiative

The Wa Community Cooperative Credit Union (WACCU) has renovated the 37-year-old Owlo Junior High School (JHS) block to create a safer and more conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers.

Until the intervention, the school, built in 1987, had never been renovated. It had deep wall cracks, broken windows and doors, a leaking roof, and a damaged floor, posing safety risks and disrupting academic activities, especially during rains.

Commissioning the project, Dr Abraham Dakurah, Supervising Manager of WACCU, said the GHȻ70,607.00 renovation was part of the Union’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to mark its 60th anniversary. He explained that the intervention was recommended by the Inye Group, a dedicated farmer cooperative in the community and long-time patron of WACCU’s services.

Reverend Father Stephen Kamtugbog, a retired Catholic Priest who originally facilitated the school’s construction, expressed gratitude to WACCU for restoring the facility, urging the public to support community development.

Mr Cyprian K. A. Basing, CEO of the Ghana Cooperative Credit Unions Association, lauded the project, noting its contribution to local development and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

District Education Director Mr Michael Nyaaba Ayamdor assured that the renovated block would be well maintained, while WACCU Board Chairperson Mr John Kofi Seidu said the choice of Owlo for the anniversary intervention reflected the vibrancy and commitment of the Daffiama branch and its Inye Group members.
