21-year-old mobile money vendor shot dead in suspected robbery at Ngleshie Amanfro

Deceased Desmond Adzah

A 21-year-old mobile money vendor, Desmond Adzah, was fatally shot by suspected armed robbers on Wednesday evening at Quarters Junction, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality.

Desmond was reportedly ambushed by unidentified gunmen around 7:00 p.m. while returning home from his shop. He was shot multiple times and rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic, where he later died while receiving treatment.

Eyewitness Ruben Kumor, who spoke to Citi News, described Desmond as a familiar and trusted face in the community. “Desmond is known to all of us at the junction. Almost everyone relies on him for his services. Just after he had closed for the day, I met him and asked to withdraw GHC150, but he told me he was short on cash,” Kumor said.

He recalled hearing gunshots shortly after parting ways with Desmond. “While returning to my office to get money, I heard a gunshot. A woman nearby tried to rush to the scene, but children stopped her. Moments later, someone came to tell me Desmond was the one shot.”

Kumor expressed frustration over what he described as growing insecurity in the area. “There’s a police station nearby, but we hardly see patrols at night. Even if they could assign community police, the ‘baby police’ as we call them, to patrol, it would help. Desmond was attacked just after closing his shop. This shouldn’t happen.”

The victim’s sister, Erica Adzah, believes her brother may have been targeted by people he knew. “This shooting incident is not random. From what we’re hearing, he was followed and possibly targeted by people he knew. Some even believe the suspects were his friends. After shooting him, they took his bag. But because he had seen their faces, they killed him,” she said.

She added that Desmond attempted to seek help at their family house, but continued gunfire kept relatives from stepping outside. “This needs serious investigation. Motorcycle crimes are becoming too common. It’s time the government takes this seriously and acts to protect innocent people.”
