Prof. Oteng-Adjei chairs newly appointed GNPC board as government pushes reforms

The Office of the President has announced a new Governing Board for the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), with Professor Joseph Oteng-Adjei named as Chairman. The appointments were officially confirmed during a swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, presided over by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor.

The newly constituted board is expected to provide strategic direction and leadership as GNPC pursues operational efficiency, investment growth, and long-term energy security in Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector.

Other members of the board include Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, the Acting Chief Executive Officer; Yo Naa Andani Yakubu Abdulai; Members of Parliament, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah and Seidu Alhassan Alajor; Mr. Mawutor Agbavitor; and lawyer and energy analyst Mr. Kwame Jantuah.

The Energy Minister used the occasion to reveal that the government is in the process of reviewing the GNPC Act, PNDC Law 64, to reflect current global standards and changing dynamics in the energy sector. The move comes amid concerns over Ghana’s declining oil production and the need to reposition the Corporation to tap into emerging opportunities across the petroleum value chain.

He described the appointments and legal reforms as part of a broader agenda to revitalise GNPC and ensure it continues to play a central role in Ghana’s energy future.
