Parliament Speaker encourages proper utilization of National Service Personnel: Ghana News

Mr. , the Speaker of , has advised leaders of public and private institutions to avoid misusing National Service Personnel (NSP) by assigning them menial tasks.

He emphasized that the national service period is a crucial year for the development of these personnel and should not be wasted on errands that do not contribute to their growth.

Mr. Bagbin's remarks came during the launch of the Golden Jubilee anniversary of the National Service Scheme () in .

The anniversary is held under the theme “National Service at 50: Repositioning the Scheme for Sustainable National Development.”

He highlighted that the service period is intended to prepare personnel for the of work.

It was regrettable, he noted, that some workers treated service personnel poorly, even to the extent that they lacked proper seating arrangements in offices.

Mr. Bagbin underlined that the country's challenges require sustainable solutions, and the could serve as a platform for developing the next generation of leaders, problem solvers, and change makers. To achieve this, he stressed the importance of investing in the operations of the NSS.

Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of NSS, shared that the Scheme had successfully deployed more personnel to support the health sector, education sector, and civil service. This year alone, approximately 65,000 personnel were assigned to classrooms.

Regarding the agricultural sector, Mr. Assibey Antwi mentioned that, with the support of President Nana Addo Dankwa , the NSS had acquired 20,000 acres of land for projects.

The NSS plays a vital role in facilitating the development of the nation and should be utilized effectively to achieve sustainable national growth.
