What are the leading web design schools in Ghana today? You may not need to enrol in a traditional university programme id you want to build professional websites for businesses. Today, students, graduates, entrepreneurs and working professionals can choose from short bootcamps, practical training centres, technology academies and full web-development programmes.

The right choice depends largely on what you want to do after training. Someone who wants to become a software developer will need a different programme from someone who wants to build WordPress websites for businesses.

Here are some web design and web-development training options worth considering in Ghana.

1. EnspireFX Web Design Bootcamp

EnspireFX Web Design Bootcamp offers an 8-week, practice-led programme designed specifically around professional business websites.

The programme is delivered over eight Saturdays, with 48 contact hours, and is available in person in Accra or live online. It does not require previous coding experience. Students learn WordPress, website planning and design, domains and hosting, SEO, website security, analytics and the business side of working with clients.

A major focus is getting students beyond simply learning software. The programme takes learners through the process of building and launching a real website that can form part of their portfolio.

Best suited for beginners, aspiring freelance web designers, entrepreneurs and people who want to build websites for businesses.

2. OpenLabs Ghana

OpenLabs Ghana is one of the established technology-training providers in Ghana, with centres in Accra, Kumasi and Tema.

Its Certificate in Full Stack Web Development goes considerably deeper into programming than a typical WordPress web-design course. The curriculum covers HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, Python, Django, databases, APIs, Git and GitHub, among other areas.

OpenLabs also lists a beginner-level Web Design course through its online platform.

Best suited for students who want to progress from web design into programming and full-stack development.

3. BuildUp Academy

BuildUp Academy focuses on practical digital skills and has a training centre in Accra.

Its offerings include website design, digital marketing and graphic design. Its web-design training includes WordPress and Elementor, and the academy emphasises project-based learning and building work that students can show prospective clients.

This makes it particularly relevant to people looking for practical rather than purely theoretical training.

Best suited for beginners interested in WordPress, digital skills and freelance-oriented work.

4. Ghana Communication Technology University

The Centre for Strategic Business and Professional Development at Ghana Communication Technology University has also offered certificate training in Web Development and Design.

A recent programme covered web-development foundations, HTML5, UI/UX, web-development tools and related technologies. The advertised programme was delivered through blended learning at the GCTU campus in Tesano.

Because university-affiliated programmes can change between cohorts, prospective students should check the current intake and curriculum before registering.

Best suited for learners who prefer structured certificate training within a university environment.

5. Codetrain

Codetrain is a technology training institution in Accra with a stronger emphasis on software development than traditional web design.

Its programmes are aimed at people seeking deeper technology and software-engineering skills. That makes it a different proposition from short WordPress-focused courses.

Best suited for people who want to pursue software development and a broader technology career.

6. GI-KACE

The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) Accra is another technology-training institution in Accra.

Its focus extends beyond web design into ICT and digital technology more broadly. Students interested in web development should check its current programmes and available intakes rather than assuming that every ICT programme is specifically focused on website design.

Best suited for learners looking for broader ICT and technology training.

7. Deseret School of Design

Deseret School Of Design is a design and technology training institution in Accra.

For someone interested in the visual side of creating websites, design training can complement technical web skills. Areas such as layout, typography, graphics and user-interface design are important when creating professional websites.

Best suited for learners interested in the design side of digital products and websites.

8. DevWorld Tech Academy

DevWorld Tech Academy is a technology training centre located around Ashaley Botwe in Accra.

It falls within the wider market of computer and technology skills training available to people who want to develop practical digital capabilities.

Best suited for beginners exploring technology and computer-related skills.

9. IPMC

IPMC Computer School is one of Ghana’s long-established computer-training institutions.

Its technology programmes cover several areas of computing and IT. For students interested specifically in web development, it is worth examining the current programme structure to determine whether the course emphasis is on website design, programming, or broader software development.

Best suited for students seeking structured IT and computing education.

10. Other Web Design and Computer Training Centres

Ghana also has numerous smaller training providers offering web design, WordPress and computer courses.

For example, E-Heights Educational Center, Improtech Training Center, Alltech Training Institute of Technology and codebooth Ghana are among the technology and computer-training providers operating in Accra.

There are also many online providers. Course aggregators currently list dozens of web-design and WordPress courses available to learners in Accra, ranging from short courses to more extensive programmes.

Web Design vs Web Development

One important thing to understand before choosing a school is that web design and web development are not necessarily the same thing.

A web-design programme may concentrate on:

  • Website layout and visual design
  • WordPress
  • Page builders
  • Responsive design
  • Domains and hosting
  • Basic SEO
  • Website management
  • Building websites for businesses

A web-development programme may go much deeper into:

  • HTML and CSS
  • JavaScript
  • Programming
  • Databases
  • APIs
  • Front-end frameworks
  • Back-end frameworks
  • Git and version control
  • Software architecture

For example, OpenLabs’ full-stack programme covers Angular, Python, Django, databases and APIs, while EnspireFX’s bootcamp specifically focuses on building and managing professional business websites without requiring coding experience.

Neither approach is inherently the same as the other. The better fit depends on the student’s goal.

How Much Does Web Design Training Cost in Ghana?

There is no single standard price. Current listings for web-design courses in Accra show significant variation, with prices depending on the provider, duration, delivery method and depth of the curriculum.

Short introductory courses can be relatively inexpensive, while intensive professional programmes can cost several thousand Ghana cedis.

For example, the currently advertised EnspireFX Bootcamp is ₵3,000, while a recent GCTU web development and design programme was advertised at ₵3,500. (EnspireFX Websites Ltd)

What Should You Look for in a Web Design School?

Price should not be the only consideration.

Before enrolling, prospective students should ask:

  1. Will I build an actual website?
  2. Will I finish with a portfolio project?
  3. Does the programme teach WordPress or coding, or both?
  4. Will I learn how to use domains and hosting?
  5. Does it cover SEO and website performance?
  6. Will I learn how to work with real clients?
  7. Is there practical, hands-on training?
  8. What happens after I complete the course?

A certificate can demonstrate that you completed training, but a portfolio of good websites can be particularly useful when trying to convince a potential client or employer that you can actually do the work.

Choosing the Right Web Design School

There are now several paths for learning website design in Ghana.

Someone who wants to start building websites for SMEs and freelance clients quickly may prefer a practical WordPress-focused programme. Someone who wants to become a professional developer may want a programme covering programming, databases, frameworks and software development. Others may want to combine web design with digital marketing, graphic design or entrepreneurship.

I recommend that you choose the programme based on what you want to be able to do after the training, rather than simply choosing the school with the longest course or the most impressive certificate.
