African Women International (AFWI) has developed a policy on sexual harassment aimed at creating safer environments and protecting women and young people from harassment and abuse.
The policy forms part of the organisation’s efforts to promote gender equality and ensure that workplaces and institutions adopt measures to prevent and address sexual harassment.

AFWI’s Executive Director, Mrs Victoria Araba Dennis, said the initiative was necessary to address challenges faced by women, especially those entering sectors where they are underrepresented.
She explained that the organisation would continue to advocate for policies that promote inclusion, protect the rights of women and girls, and provide mechanisms for reporting and addressing cases of harassment.
The organisation has also been involved in programmes aimed at increasing young women’s participation in non-traditional sectors of technical and vocational education and training (TVET), while supporting institutions to develop sexual harassment policies.
The move comes amid growing calls globally for stronger workplace protections against sexual harassment, with many organisations adopting clear policies, reporting systems and accountability measures to address misconduct.
