IGP Visits Essiama and Nkroful After Youth Attack on State Institutions

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has visited Essiama and Nkroful in the Western Region following attacks on some state institutions by angry youth.

The IGP, accompanied by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Western Regional Police Command, visited the affected areas on Saturday to assess the situation.

The team visited the Essiama Divisional Police Headquarters, the District Magistrate Court and the Teleku Bokazo Chief Palace.

The attacks followed the death of a 33-year-old man, Andrews Donkor, at Nkroful during an attempt by security personnel to disperse an agitated crowd gathered near the Nkroful District Court.

The crowd had gathered after 28 suspected illegal small-scale miners were brought before the court following their arrest on the concession of Adamus Resources Limited.

An eyewitness claimed that the deceased was hit by a bullet fired by a security officer and later died at the Ekwe Hospital.

The incident reportedly angered some youth, who later stormed the Essiama Police Station and attacked some state facilities.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and the subsequent attacks.
