The Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery, says the government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and residents in Ghana.
He said the government had adopted measures to strengthen the country’s security system, including improving the capacity of security agencies through training and welfare support.

Mr Dery made the remarks in Wa during the handing over of two two-bedroom houses built by the State Housing Company for the Upper West Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to be used as residential accommodation.
He described the GIS as an important security institution because it serves as the first point of contact and first line of defence for people entering the country.
According to him, improving the welfare and professionalism of immigration officers was essential for maintaining peace and stability.
The minister disclosed that plans were far advanced to establish a new GIS training centre at Tepa to provide personnel with the skills required for effective border management and customer service.
He said officers were expected to be vigilant in checking the background of persons entering the country and ensuring that individuals with criminal records or security concerns were identified.
Mr Dery also urged landlords, business owners, hotel operators and other residents to assist security agencies by reporting suspicious activities involving foreigners in their communities.
Addressing complaints from travellers about delays at immigration checkpoints, he said the checks were necessary for national security.
He, however, advised GIS personnel to act professionally and explain the purpose of the checks to travellers to promote understanding and cooperation.
