Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said the government’s digitisation agenda is helping to build a transparent and accountable system that reduces opportunities for corruption and improves public sector efficiency.
Speaking at the ordination of Most Rev. Dr George Kotei Neequaye as Suffragan Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Accra, Dr Bawumia said corruption thrives where there is little transparency and weak systems.

He explained that initiatives such as the Ghana Card are helping to create a more trustworthy system by uniquely identifying citizens and reducing reliance on personal connections and intermediaries in accessing public services.
According to the Vice President, linking the Ghana Card to the Tax Identification Number (TIN), NHIS, and SSNIT has increased tax registration among adults from about four per cent to 85 per cent.
He added that digital systems have also reduced the need to pay bribes or use middlemen to access services such as passport applications, driver’s licences, vehicle insurance, and port clearance.
Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that more work remains in the fight against corruption and called on the church to continue praying for peace and national development.
He also congratulated the newly ordained bishop, praising the Anglican Church for its long-standing contributions to education, poverty reduction, and national development, and donated GH¢50,000 to support the church.
