Three Ghanaians elected to key African Union roles at executive council meeting

Ghana has secured significant representation in the African Union Commission following the election of three distinguished nationals to key positions during the 46th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from February 12 to 13, 2025.

Ambassador Amma Adomaa Twum-Amoah, a career diplomat and Ghana’s former ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, and South Sudan, has been elected as Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development for the 2025–2028 term.

Hon. Edem Kwami Senanu, a management and development consultant with three decades of experience, has been re-elected as a member of the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption for the 2025–2029 term.

Ambassador Jane Gasu Aheto, an international lawyer and Ghana’s former ambassador to Guinea and Guinea Bissau, has also been elected as a member of the African Union Commission on International Law for the same 2025–2029 period.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, along with management and staff of the ministry, has congratulated the three appointees for their achievement and for elevating Ghana’s presence on the continental stage.
