The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, says 88 hospitals under the government’s flagship Agenda 111 programme are currently under construction, reaffirming the government’s commitment to completing the projects before the end of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
Agenda 111, launched by President Akufo-Addo on August 17, 2021, seeks to construct 111 hospitals across the country to improve access to healthcare services.

The project was initially expected to be completed within 18 months, but implementation has faced delays in some districts, largely due to challenges in acquiring land for construction.
Speaking at a press briefing in Trede in the Ashanti Region, where the initiative was launched two years ago, Mr Oppong Nkrumah said work was progressing steadily on most of the projects.
He disclosed that the projects had been grouped into eight construction zones, covering 54 project sites, with government officials having already inspected 33 of them.
“We have visited 33 sites so far and we thought that coming to Trede, where it all began, it is important to showcase from Trede all that has gone on so far,” he said.
The Information Minister acknowledged that while the majority of the projects were progressing satisfactorily, a few had fallen behind schedule.
He revealed that contracts for some delayed projects had been terminated to ensure the timely completion of the overall programme.
“We have also updated you on the ones that we have had to terminate because they are behind schedule,” he added.
Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, assured the public that adequate funding had been secured to complete the hospitals.
He said the completion of the Agenda 111 hospitals would not only improve healthcare delivery across the country but also create employment opportunities for health professionals, including nurses, while contributing to Ghana’s economic development.
