The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, together with Deputy Minister Hon. James Gunu and other senior officials, has commenced a two-day comprehensive road inspection tour across the Volta Region.
The high-level exercise underscores the government’s determination to accelerate infrastructure development and ensure value for money in critical road projects.

Accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, senior ministry officials, and engineers from the Ghana Highway Authority, the team visited key project sites to assess ongoing works.
The tour forms part of the government’s “Big Push” initiative, aimed at fast-tracking the implementation of strategic road infrastructure projects.
Key activities during the exercise included receiving detailed technical briefings from engineers and consultants, assessing the physical progress and quality of construction works, reviewing project timelines and milestones, identifying and discussing practical solutions to implementation challenges, and engaging with contractors and local stakeholders.
Hon. James Gunu emphasised that the government remains fully committed to delivering these projects on schedule and to the highest engineering standards. Improved road connectivity, he noted, is essential for accelerating socio-economic development, enhancing trade, and improving access to services across communities in the Volta Region.
The Volta Region, with its vast agricultural potential, tourism sites, and cross-border trade opportunities, stands to benefit immensely from better road infrastructure.
Key projects under review are expected to ease transportation bottlenecks, boost agricultural marketing, and support industrial growth. Well-maintained roads also play a critical role in reducing vehicle operating costs, improving road safety, and attracting investment into the region.
This inspection tour aligns with the government’s wider commitment to transforming Ghana’s road network. Recent years have seen significant investments in highways, feeder roads, and bridges across the country.
The “Big Push” approach reflects a results-oriented strategy focused on monitoring, accountability, and timely delivery. Challenges such as funding constraints, weather conditions, land acquisition issues, and contractor performance are being actively addressed during these field visits.
