Mahama reaffirms support for senior citizens at Republic Day luncheon

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare, pensions and social protection to ensure dignified ageing for senior citizens.

Speaking at the Republic Day Senior Citizens’ Luncheon at the Presidential Villa in Accra, the President described senior citizens as the foundation of Ghana’s progress and expressed appreciation for their contributions to national development.

He said the government is implementing the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme to grow the economy, improve livelihoods and provide enhanced support for retirees.

President Mahama also encouraged senior citizens to enrol in the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) to assist with the treatment of non-communicable diseases.

He further called on families and communities to continue showing respect and care for the elderly.
