Spain held to goalless draw by first-timers Cape Verde in FIFA World Cup 2026 Group H

Spain were held to a 0-0 draw by Cape Verde in their Group H match at Atlanta Stadium on Tuesday.

Spain dominated the contest, recording 23 shots to Cape Verde’s six and registering eight shots on target compared to their opponents’ one. The European side also enjoyed 74 per cent possession, completed 764 passes with a pass accuracy of 92 per cent, and won 11 corners.

Cape Verde, however, remained resolute defensively to deny Spain a breakthrough despite prolonged pressure throughout the match.

Spain committed 10 fouls and received one yellow card, while Cape Verde committed one foul and also received a yellow card. Spain were flagged offside twice, with Cape Verde caught offside on three occasions.

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha delivered a standout performance, earning a match rating of 8.5. For Spain, Pedri and Rodri were among the top performers with ratings of 7.1 and 6.4, respectively.

The result leaves Spain and Cape Verde level on points in Group H after the opening round of matches.
