Following the presentation, the seized firearms were handed over to the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons for documentation, marking, and destruction in accordance with the law.
Mr Muntaka assured the public that all equipment and items confiscated during anti-illegal mining operations, particularly excavators, would be handled transparently and in line with established legal procedures.
He further stated that details of seized items and actions taken would be made available to the public through appropriate channels to ensure accountability and transparency.
The Interior Minister also appealed to communities affected by illegal mining and the general public to support the government and NAIMOS in the ongoing fight against galamsey.
According to him, illegal mining continues to pose significant threats to the environment, water bodies, farmlands, and the livelihoods of many Ghanaians.
Addressing newly deployed NAIMOS personnel, Hon. Muntaka urged them to carry out their duties with professionalism, integrity, and dedication, stressing that public trust and adherence to their mandate would be crucial to the success of the anti-galamsey campaign.
He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration between government agencies, security institutions, and local communities would help protect Ghana’s natural resources and preserve the environment for future generations.
