Parliament committee engages Dallaire Institute on child protection and security

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Security and Intelligence has held an engagement session with representatives of the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security to discuss issues relating to child protection and national security.

According to Parliament, the discussions focused on the protection of children in armed conflict, implementation of the Vancouver Principles, prevention of violent extremism, community resilience and the protection of children from recruitment and use in armed violence.

The meeting also examined issues relating to moral injury among military personnel, early warning systems, youth engagement and the integration of child protection principles into Ghana’s national security framework.

The engagement brought together members of the Committee and officials of the Dallaire Institute, a Canadian organisation that works internationally to prevent the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict.

Parliament said the session enabled members of the Committee to seek clarification on the Institute’s work, assess Ghana’s preparedness in responding to emerging security threats and consider possible policy and legislative measures to strengthen preventive security systems.
