Interior Minister urges compliance with fire safety laws as AFCAS rollout begins

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has urged Ghanaians and institutions to strictly comply with fire safety regulations to help reduce fire outbreaks and prevent the destruction of lives and property.

He made the call during a stakeholder engagement meeting held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the headquarters of the Bank of Ghana in Accra. The meeting brought together officials from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Bank of Ghana’s Collateral Registry Department.

According to the Minister, compliance with fire safety laws will be critical to the successful implementation of the newly introduced Automated Fire Safety Compliance System (AFCAS).

The digital platform, launched by the Ghana National Fire Service, is designed to replace the traditional manual and paper-based inspection and certification process with a faster, more transparent and technology-driven system.

Mr Mohammed-Mubarak explained that AFCAS is expected to improve efficiency in fire safety inspections while enhancing accountability and reducing delays associated with the previous system. He noted that the initiative forms part of broader government efforts to modernise public service delivery through digital transformation.

The Interior Minister stressed that fire outbreaks continue to pose serious threats to businesses, institutions and households, making it necessary for all stakeholders to prioritise fire prevention measures and comply fully with safety standards.

He also commended the Ghana National Fire Service for introducing the digital platform, describing it as an important step toward strengthening fire safety management in the country.

Officials at the meeting expressed optimism that AFCAS would improve monitoring and enforcement of fire safety regulations while making the certification process more convenient for businesses and institutions nationwide.
