The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has commended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its role in promoting Ghana’s image and advancing its national interests.
During a working visit to the Ministry on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the Vice President praised the institution’s professionalism, innovation, and dedication to implementing Ghana’s foreign policy objectives. She highlighted the Ministry’s leadership in mobilising global support for the United Nations General Assembly Resolution declaring the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialised chattel enslavement as the gravest crime against humanity.

She urged staff to continue striving for excellence and emphasised the importance of remaining aligned with the Ministry’s mandate. On economic diplomacy, she pointed to opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area and encouraged continued efforts to strengthen trade and investment partnerships for national economic transformation.
The Vice President also acknowledged improvements in staff welfare, noting that strong institutions depend not only on performance but also on the well-being of personnel. She reaffirmed the Presidency’s commitment to maintaining open engagement with public institutions.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, described the visit as historic, marking the first time Ghana’s first female Vice President had undertaken such an engagement with the Ministry. He outlined key achievements, including the adoption of UN Resolution A/RES/80/250 and reforms in passport administration such as chip-embedded passports, reduced processing fees, a one-day emergency passport service, and the establishment of passport centres in all sixteen regions.
He also highlighted progress in securing visa waiver agreements and the introduction of free visa for Africans, effective May 2026.
On staff welfare, the Minister cited improved conditions of service, enhanced allowances, transportation support for junior staff, and new measures to assist foreign service officers returning to base.
Chief Director Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu welcomed the Vice President and assured her of the Ministry’s continued commitment to delivering on its mandate in service of national development.
