Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang addresses fiscal governance at accountants’ conference

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has attended the 2026 Controller and Accountant-General’s Annual Conference in Koforidua.

The conference was held under the theme “Leveraging Technology, Transparency and Accountability for Sustainable Fiscal Governance.”

She stated that sound accounting systems are essential for effective governance, enabling government to plan, allocate resources efficiently, and deliver results.

She noted that fiscal discipline, reforms, and strong institutional performance have contributed to recent economic improvements, including declining inflation and a more stable currency.

She emphasised the need to use digital transformation and innovation to improve efficiency, reduce leakages, and enhance real-time financial reporting.

She also highlighted the importance of strengthening payroll systems, eliminating irregularities such as ghost names, and ensuring transparent processes.

She asserted the government’s commitment to ensuring that public resources are used effectively and commended the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department for its role in promoting accountability and service delivery.
