Vice president highlights role of civil society in strengthening governance

Ghana’s Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has underscored the importance of civil society in promoting accountability and transparency in governance.

Speaking after participating in a Presidential Dialogue with Civil Society, the Vice President noted that the engagement focused on enhancing ethical standards in public office and strengthening accountable governance.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including President John Dramani Mahama and representatives from various civil society organizations.

She emphasized that civil society groups play a crucial role in national development through their advocacy, oversight, and constructive contributions to policy discussions. According to her, their involvement is essential in deepening democratic governance and ensuring that public institutions remain accountable to citizens.

The Vice President further reaffirmed government’s commitment to maintaining open engagement and stronger collaboration with civil society actors. She stressed that inclusive dialogue is key to building a more transparent and responsible system of governance.

The Presidential Dialogue forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships between government and non-state actors, with the aim of promoting integrity, trust, and citizen participation in national development.
