Vice president launches heritage village initiative to boost local gold industry

Ghana’s Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has officially launched the Heritage Village initiative, a new platform aimed at promoting locally made gold jewellery and strengthening the country’s value-added industry.

The initiative, spearheaded by Goldbod Jewellery and led by Gertrude Emefa Donkor, seeks to support local artisans while advancing Ghana’s transition from exporting raw gold to producing finished, high-value products.

Speaking at the launch, the Vice President described the initiative as aligned with a critical national priority, driving industrial growth through value addition and innovation.

She emphasized that Ghana’s economic transformation will increasingly depend on its ability to shift focus from raw material exports to the creation of competitive, locally manufactured goods.

The three-day event, organized to coincide with Ghana Month, highlights gold not only as a natural resource but also as a symbol of national pride and economic opportunity. It also provides a platform for young entrepreneurs and businesses to showcase their creativity and potential on a global stage.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang commended the organizers for contributing to the national conversation on industrialization and enterprise development, noting that such initiatives are vital for empowering small businesses and fostering innovation.

She expressed optimism that the Heritage Village initiative will continue to inspire creativity, support artisans, and play a meaningful role in Ghana’s industrial and economic growth.

The launch marks another step in Ghana’s broader efforts to build a resilient economy driven by local production, creativity, and value addition.
