Five killed in Kwahu trailer accident; driver in critical condition

Five people have lost their lives following a fatal road accident involving a trailer in the Kwahu area of the Eastern Region.

The tragic incident occurred on a busy stretch of road in Kwahu when the trailer reportedly lost control and crashed, killing five persons on the spot. Several others are also said to have sustained injuries in the accident.

According to eyewitness accounts, the heavy-duty vehicle was traveling along the route when the driver suddenly lost control, causing the trailer to veer off its lane and crash violently.

Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene to assist victims and transport the injured to nearby health facilities for medical treatment.

The driver of the trailer, who sustained severe injuries in the crash, is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at a hospital in the area.

Officers from the Ghana Police Service have begun investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that brake failure or overspeeding may have contributed to the crash, though authorities say this has not yet been confirmed.

Fatal road accidents remain a major concern in Ghana, particularly on highways and routes frequently used by heavy trucks and long-distance vehicles.

Police have urged drivers to observe traffic regulations, avoid excessive speed, and ensure that their vehicles are in good mechanical condition before embarking on journeys in order to reduce accidents on the country’s roads.
