Mahama to deliver 2026 State of the Nation Address today

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to deliver the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, outlining government’s policy direction, economic outlook, and legislative agenda for the year.

The address, which will be delivered before Parliament of Ghana in Accra, is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which requires the President to present a message on the state of the nation at the beginning of each session of Parliament.

The 2026 SONA is anticipated to focus on key national issues, including economic recovery, job creation, infrastructure development, energy supply, education, healthcare, and the ongoing fight against illegal mining.

Observers expect the President to also address fiscal measures, social intervention programmes, and strategies aimed at stabilising the macroeconomic environment.

The address comes at a time when the government is facing public scrutiny over cost-of-living pressures and demands for improved public service delivery. Analysts say the speech will be closely watched for clear policy signals and measurable commitments.

Members of Parliament, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, and representatives of civil society are expected to attend the sitting.

The State of the Nation Address provides an opportunity for the President to account for the government’s performance over the past year and to outline priorities for the months ahead.
