GFA pays courtesy call on IGP to strengthen sports security

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), on Thursday, 19th February 2026, received the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku Mantey, and his delegation at the National Police Headquarters in Accra.

The courtesy call was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and the GFA to enhance sports security and promote the development of football in the country.

Discussions focused on maintaining high ethical standards in football competitions, addressing match manipulation, and tackling illegal betting activities.

Both institutions acknowledged the growing concerns around the integrity of the sport and underscored the need for coordinated action to protect it.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the credibility of the Ghana Premier League and other domestic competitions through enhanced cooperation, intelligence sharing, and joint investigations, alongside preventive strategies.

The meeting also explored plans for the development of a modern sporting facility for the Police Service as part of broader efforts to promote sports within the security services.

Both the Ghana Police Service and the GFA expressed readiness to work closely to advance these initiatives and strengthen the integrity and security framework surrounding football in Ghana.
