Residents of five communities in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region have issued a heartfelt appeal to the government and municipal authorities to rehabilitate the only access route to their area. The communities affected by the deteriorating road conditions are Aborkugya, Papaye, Chantai, Kpachiri, and Ayeremu.
Expressing their concerns to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), residents highlighted the severe challenges posed by the deplorable state of the road. Mrs. Jennifer Konde, a resident, lamented that the poor road conditions had significantly worsened living conditions in the area. The lack of access to transportation due to the road's condition forced residents to predominantly travel on foot, occasionally resorting to tricycles and bicycles.
Furthermore, Mr. Nsando Obore voiced concerns about the heightened insecurity along the dilapidated road, citing incidents of armed robbery and other criminal activities. This added layer of danger compounds the hardships faced by residents and underscores the urgent need for road rehabilitation.
Mr. Rockson Denteh, the Assembly member representing the affected area, expressed frustration over failed attempts to address the road's condition. Despite continuous efforts to draw attention to the issue, the road remains neglected, exacerbating the plight of the communities it serves.
The residents' appeal is a plea for basic infrastructure that is essential for their well-being and integration into the municipality. They call upon the authorities to prioritize the rehabilitation of the road, emphasizing its critical importance for transportation, security, and overall community development.
The plight of these communities underscores the broader challenges faced by rural areas in accessing basic amenities and infrastructure. Addressing their concerns aligns with efforts to promote equitable development and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
