China and Ghana deepen educational cooperation to boost scholarships: Ghana News

Mr. Sheng Jianxue, Secretary-General of the Scholarship Council, emphasized the need for deepened educational cooperation between and Ghana during an exhibition held by a Chinese delegation from 24 top .

The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in , Ghana's , and the Confucius Institute of the , aimed to attract more Ghanaian students for admission into Chinese .

Mr. Sheng Jianxue noted that the exhibition in would contribute to the Belt and Road Initiative, fostering a China-Africa community of shared future.

He highlighted China's growing influence in international affairs and its status as one of the most attractive destinations for study abroad.

China, he said, had seen remarkable achievements in promoting the mobility of both Chinese and foreign students and scholars.

He revealed that in 2022, more than 800,000 Chinese students studied abroad, maintaining China's status as the world's biggest source country for students studying overseas.

Over the past decade, 2,012 Ghanaian students were sponsored under the Chinese Government Scholarship, Mr. Sheng noted, with more than half pursuing graduate studies.

He emphasized the willingness of the China Scholarship Council to strengthen educational exchange between the two countries.

Ambassador Lu Kun, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, encouraged Ghanaian students to study in Chinese universities, experience China's development, learn Chinese culture, and make Chinese friends, promoting friendship between the two nations.

Ghana's Minister of Education, Dr. , commended China for its global leadership in higher education. Meanwhile, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor of the , appealed to China for more scholarship opportunities to enhance educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
